the worst of pinterest

Somehow, I was a member of Pinterest when it was in beta. For months, no one I knew in real life had heard of the site, and the name of it existed only in my head.

It was just a few months ago (at lunch with Lauren and Sarah) that I said the word "Pinterest" out loud. It's strange saying a word you've never said before, right? It's kind of like this scene from the movie Garden State. Kind of.

Since then, I've grown comfortable placing the p in front of interest in everyday conversation. And I've found it's much more fun to discuss the worst pins than the best ones. Here are three pins that just keep popping up that I wish wouldn't:

This makes me queasy and confused. As far as its plausibility, I consulted an expert who said, "Uhhh, no."  And by that  I mean I showed it to Y.

WHY has this picture been pinned approximately 1 million times? WHY on Earth would you do this? As my friend T said, "I have nightmares about this picture."

I consulted my expert on this picture too, and I might have to fire him because he said, and I quote, "That. Is. AWESOME."

This picture is on every "places I'd like to visit" board and is listed as being in Dublin, Ireland. This one I understand. I'd like to visit Photoshop Castle too, but it's just not in my budget right now.

Tell me, what pins are you tired of seeing? Have you tried the hot dog spaghetti abomination? If so, WHY? I want to hear from someone in the pro-spaghetti-hotdog camp.

{PS, the rock formation [not the building on top of it] in the last picture is real - according to Wikipedia it's called Ko Tapu and it's off the coast of Thailand. Which is kind of like Ireland.}

  1. I'm actually envisioning a bit of a slightly classier version of the hotdog calamity. Imagine spaghetti & meatballs without the whole spinning of the noodles. Just not sure how I feel about reducing the probability of a Lady & the Tramp moment that greatly, though.

  2. I'd say you hit the nail on the head with these three. I'm tired of seeing them and the hot dogs with spaghetti running through them is just weird.

  3. I *thought* that baby one was fake! And you just blew my mind with Photoshop castle. How did you know it was fake!?

i'm tired of seeing the one about the wedding ring being worn on the left hand ring finger because it's the only one with a vein going straight to the heart. FALSE!

  4. I haven't seen the baby foot one and I'm GLAD. That is the freakiest thing and it makes me extremely queasy.
Thankfully I haven't seen too many pins that all that tired of seeing. Although I read a blog this morning and that something like "terrible accidents" were showing up on her feed. I'm pretty sure I would unfollow those peeps right that second. WHY would you want that sad/grossness on your boards?!

  5. Hahahaha I am loving this post!!
There are SO many pins that make me shake my head - like hang my head and shake it at the same time.
The stomach with the foot just irritates the crap out of me because people oooh and ahhhh over it and it's just impossible.
I think you should make it a weekly thing to talk about the worst pins - I would totally join in on that!

  6. LOL! What a great idea for a post! There are so many dumbass pins. But the good ones make up for it I think. lol. I also can't stand that hot dog-spaghetti trainwreck. I've never seen the photoshop castle thankfully. But that's horrible. The one I really can't stand is "good moms have sticky floors, dirty ovens..." and something else I can't think of. Gag me. It's entirely possible to be a good mom and not live like a slob.

  8. Chris - can you please create your masterpiece and report back?? You may be on to something.

Whit & Andi - I haven't seen those! I think everyone needs to do this post.

Ashley - Thai-reland is my new favorite word.

  9. I've never seen the hot dog spaghetti thing before....BUT I have made hot dogs into an octopus! You take a hot dog (no additions, thankfully) and cut eight legs on one side. When you put it into boiling water to cook it, the legs curl up. Oh the wonders of working with little kids.

  10. This is a hoot. Except for the first picture, which keeps popping up when I scroll through Pinterest and really disturbs me. Like considering maybe never having children level of disturbed. Ew.

  11. That hot dog spaghetti...I, I just don't even know. It's disgusting and creepy and yet...I want to make it. Like right now. If only green ketchup still existed (does green ketchup still exist?), you would have the most foul AND fabulous combination...
