tea time confession

I have a confession. I expect the entire internet to hate me after this, but here goes:

I don't really like Downton Abbey.

I mean, I thought it was funny when the Dowager Countess asked what a weekend was. But that's about it. Each episode -- and we're on season 3, so it's not like I haven't given it a chance -- I find myself wishing I was doing something else about halfway through. So I do.

Sometimes I even clean. That's how not into it I am.

Honestly, I don't know why I'm not a fan. I like British things as much as the next girl. Digestives! Pride and Prejudice! The graphic design of the London Underground! Love Actually!

And tea.

We love tea in this house. Y is half British and grew up drinking PG Tips. Now, tea is kind of a ritual around here... so much so that we've basically devoted a corner to it.

(Y has had to move on to stronger doses of caffeine, so coffee gets a place of honor, too.)

But wait, you're thinking, Doesn't the idea of curling up in front of Downton Abbey with a cup of tea sound romantic?

The answer is NO.

I would much rather sip this classy beverage while watching a ragtag gang of strangers murder zombies.

  1. I LOVE your little tea corner! It's so cute! I have yet to see Downton Abbey - I admit I'm curious and want to see what all the hype is about, but part of me is resisting because I'm not sure if I would even enjoy it. Then I would feel like I would need to keep watching to try to enjoy it!

  2. "I would much rather sip this classy beverage while watching a ragtag gang of strangers murder zombies." THIS! I am not a fan of tea or Downton but give me a bowl of pretzels, some cranberry juice, and Walking Dead and I'm one happy lady!

  3. Ahahahah. I too would much rather watch Walking Dead over Downton any day. I like Downton but not nearly as much as others. I often fall asleep watching it.

  4. Tea is a beloved Minnesnowta pretension of long standing. My late mother-in-law from Mankato had a high tea fetish even though she didn't have a clue what it was. Her family was Welsh. I may have been a New York Jew, but my grandmother was from London..complete with posh accent and impeccable manners she passed on to the grandchildren. As in, "you did not learn that in _my_ house" which was her version of smacking one upside the head. Whatever.

Downton is droll. It's a Brit show made for a Brit audience with a side serving for Americans. Kinda like Dr. Who or olives; it's an acquired taste. And it's okay if you don't like it. As it happens my London cousins are not fans.

Do, however, got to Tea Source or one of the tea shops to learn how to brew a proper cuppa. You won't be sorry.
