one year ago today

Almost exactly a year ago to the day, we landed in Minneapolis on the most gorgeous spring day you can imagine, picked up our rental Kia Soul, and met our realtor in front of a bright green co-op where I ate a vegan duck banh mi sandwich. (I don't really know why. I think I was inspired by the hippie-ness of the co-op.)

Then we proceeded to see about 13 houses, of which I hated about 11.

Including the one we bought.

But I appreciated the challenge of making this house that was so blah our own. And here we are a year later, and while it's still a work in progress, I think we've done a pretty solid job.

(Real talk? The bed is unmade because Y was actually under the covers, sleeping off a night shift.)

    1. Thanks! I was totally discourage by all of the dark wood trim in South Minneapolis, but I thought, surely Pinterest will be able to help me figure out a good color to pair with it! Turns out there are like 5 pictures of dark wood trim on Pinterest (compared to the 99999999 pictures of white trim). One picture was of a dark gray wall. So I went with it :)

  4. So this is how you keep yourself busy during the long winters! As usual, I am very, very impressed by your hard work and creativity. It looks very lovely! Let me know when it's warm enough to go north. I am also happy to see that you and Yoni no longer sleep in bunks. I'm sure Ike feels better now not having to decide if he wants to go on the top or bottom bunk.

We did quite a bit of renovations a couple of years ago and it's hard work.

    1. Thanks! Renovation seems like such a hardcore word, and I don't think what we did is that hardcore... but I'll take it! :)

  9. Saw your link on FB :) random question... How did you make your shower head higher?! We just moved in to a condo and the husband has to crouch over to wash his hair! We are in need of some renovations. Next time you visit Oregon you can come redo my place ok?

  10. Wow, that year goes so fast! You guys (or mostly you? that's often how it is at my house...) have done an amazing job - did you just pull up the carpet to reveal those great floors?! The paint colors are great, and I love the bathroom tiling too.

  15. Your house is looking good! I secretly hate our house too, but am slowly trying to improve it until the day when we can sell it (which we're hoping comes sooner rather than later...)
