weekend lessons v10

01. There's nothing cuter than when Ike sits down next to you, gazes up at you with his giant brown eyes... and farts.

02. This is last weekend's lesson, but because I like you, I'll share anyway: it is possible to throw a baby shower for couples that doesn't make the guys want to gauge their eyes out. The secret: no games, serve beer (we chose craft beer with some kind of baby-related-ish name), pizza, and a mocktail for the mom-to-be), and leave the presents at the door. Proceed like any other party. Maybe play the N Sync Pandora station.

03. March is apparently Minnesota's snowiest month. I learned this from the beer expert at the nicest liquor store ever... so it must be true. No, I don't want to talk about it. The snow, not the liquor store. We can definitely talk about the liquor store if you want.

04. Meeting a lot of bloggers at the same time is sort of terrifying. As a side note, I don't think I had heard the words "bloglovin" or "google friend connect" out loud until this weekend. Try saying them out loud. It's weird, right?

05. The following ingredients make an amazing cocktail: white pepper, lavender, chamomile infused vodka, ginger beer and lemon bitters. It's called the raven, and you should come visit me and we can order it at Birdhouse.

06. RELATED: Moving somewhere with tons of restaurants sounded really amazing... until it became a full time job trying to keep up with all the places I want to eat. It's so intensive that I have to use an app. Life is hard.

  1. I am so with you - it is definitely terrifying/overwhelming to meet a ton of bloggers (or any new people for that matter) all at once. but i'm happy you came and stuck it out :) it was really nice to meet you.

  2. bahaha... yes, definitely terrifying. Imagine if your first meetup was the day after Day 1 of the bar exam, and you basically forgot you were meeting people after it so you wore zero makeup and wore your hair like a hippie peasant. awful. not the meetup, but my confidence. haha. It was so great to meet you though! Hopefully see you soon!

also, I need that app. I always hear people reference restaurants (and after seeing you IG the Birdhouse I was all "oh that looks interesting!") but then I promptly forget about them when it's dinner time and we wind up at Noodles & Co. for the 8th time that month. womp.

  3. Even tho I didn't get a chance to talk to you much - we were at totally opposite ends of the table, it was so nice that you came out to the blogger party and so fun to see/meet you. I picked one of your favorite things (the anthro notebook) and LOVE it. :) Thank you!

  4. Lavender and ginger beer together in a cocktail sounds a. mazing. That's definitely my kind of drink!

  5. oh my goodness that drink sounds amaaaazing!

Miley is totally guilty of farting sometimes and she totally acts as if it doesn't happen and like she's trying to find out where the sound came from! Absolutely ridiculous, but makes me laugh every time.

    1. I e-mailed this comment to Corinne, but I feel like I need to post it here so people can know how truly weird I am (or reassure me that they've done the same thing): This is totally weird of me, but everytime Ike farts, I get really philosophical thinking about how free it must be to be an animal that can make such a gross bodily function and not even realize it could be anything less than normal!!

  7. Now THAT is a baby shower I could get behind. We had a coed wedding shower, and it was basically happy hour in a private room at a bar with a race to open gifts as quickly as possible. I've always thought these two milestones-with-gifts should be for BOTH people in the couple (it's the feminist in me), so fun ideas like these float my boat!

And I love ginger beer cocktails. Lavender sounds perfect for spring - if it ever gets here!

  9. I've been reading your blog for awhile, but never had a comment witty enough to bother you with. (This isn't witty either...sorry to get your hopes up.) But my husband and I have recently made the decision to move from Southern California to Cleveland so I can pursue my PhD, and now you are my "how to live in cold weather" guru. No pressure, just wanted you to know. ;)

    1. oh shit, now I need to step it up a notch!! Don't worry, since winter seems to be taking its sweet time, I'm sure I'll be a pro soon enough. I'm glad you commented!! I also like that I give off a vibe that you have to be witty to talk to me. I've never given off a vibe before...

    2. Honestly, I'll never know if your info is good or not, so don't worry about stepping anything up. You are already a pro in my eyes! And it's definitely a good vibe to give off.

  10. This app sounds like an excellent idea. Sometimes when we finally get a chance for a date night, I'm just paralyzed trying to remember which good restaurant options I've been waiting to try! But really, I'm thinking I need to visit Minneapolis - all the restaurant stuff you've been posting/Instagramming has me a little jealous :)

Love the baby shower idea too.

    1. Also, talking about blogs in person really makes me squirm, because it's like a second life that should only be conducted online. So talking in real life with bloggers is really weird. But not quite as squirm-inducing, at least!
